Every thriving plant begins with an exceptional substrate. Biochar is a highly beneficial plant-based amendment, used as a substrate base or targeted additive. When incorporated into a growing mix, it acts as a natural root-environment regulator. Thanks to its microporous structure, biochar improves substrate aeration, enhances moisture management, and helps prevent excess water without drying out the medium. It also plays a key role in the natural purification of the substrate by adsorbing impurities, residues, and certain toxins. Biochar supports the biological balance of the growing medium by providing a habitat for beneficial microorganisms. This promotes the development of healthy, active root systems, increases plant resilience to stress, and improves long-term substrate stability throughout the plant’s growth cycle.

Formulated and prepared in France

The search for the perfect substrate is at the core of our philosophy. Over more than two years, we researched, tested, and refined multiple formulations to create substrates tailored to the specific needs of each plant. This in-depth work was carried out between Thailand and France, under real growing conditions, with extensive testing focused on drainage, aeration, water retention, and root health. The final formulation of our substrates is completed in France. All our substrates are then prepared and packaged in our greenhouse in the Paris region, under strict quality control, ensuring reliable, high-performance, and long-lasting growing media.

Description & Information

How our biochar works

Biochar is a plant-based amendment specifically designed to be used as a substrate base or functional additive, mixed directly into the growing medium.

Its microporous structure provides a precise balance between aeration, controlled moisture retention, and root-zone stability, which is essential for healthy indoor plants, including the most sensitive species.

Thanks to its high adsorption capacity, biochar contributes to the natural purification of the substrate by capturing impurities, residues, and excess nutrients.

It also promotes excellent air circulation around the roots and helps prevent compaction, root rot, and biological imbalances, creating a healthy and long-lasting root environment.

An amendment inspired by natural processes

In nature, soils enriched with plant-based charcoal show high biological activity and long-term structural stability.

Biochar is directly inspired by these living soils in order to recreate, within the substrate, a biologically active, aerated, and resilient environment perfectly suited for container cultivation.

How to use biochar

Mix biochar directly into your growing substrate, adjusting the proportion according to the plant type and substrate blend.

Used as a base or as an additive, it improves substrate longevity, secures watering practices, and promotes healthy, active root development over the long term.

FAQ

Would biochar be suitable for my plant?

Plants, whether tropical or temperate, naturally thrive in living, carbon-rich soils where air and water circulate freely around the roots. Biochar is directly inspired by these natural environments to recreate an aerated, biologically active, and sustainable substrate. It protects the root system from moisture-related imbalances, promotes healthy water management, and supports balanced, stable, and secure growth for all types of potted plants.

When should I repot my plant?

  • Roots growing out of the bottom of the pot
  • A substrate that dries out very quickly between waterings
  • A plant that has become too heavy or unstable, and tends to tip over
  • Roots that push the plant upwards and out of the pot
  • Repotting is recommended every 1 to 2 years , depending on the plant's growth.

How long can the substrate be stored?

A sealed substrate , stored in its original bag, dry and away from light, can be kept for 12 to 18 months while preserving its physical and biological properties. Once opened , the substrate remains fully usable for 6 to 9 months , provided it is properly resealed and stored in a dry environment.

A used substrate (already potted and watered) remains effective for 9 to 18 months , depending on the plant, watering frequency, and growing conditions. Beyond this period, the structure and biological activity gradually decrease; it is then recommended to repot or renew the substrate every 1 to 2 years to maintain an optimal root environment. 🌿

How much biochar do I need?

Use the jar volume calculator available on the product page to determine the quantity you need.

What should I do if my plant doesn't seem happier with its new substrate?

If your plant doesn't seem to be thriving in this substrate, please don't hesitate to contact us . We'll help you diagnose the situation (substrate, watering, light, environment) and find the best solution to ensure healthy and sustainable growth for your plant 🌿
